Electronic Cigarette Calls To Action!

eCigBeat - Sat, 04/02/2012 - 14:19

The vaposhphere is up at arms about certain legislation against electronic cigarettes that has emerged over the past weeks.

The following links explaining these lead to “calls for action” concerning the bills.

In Hawaii, they want to add 70% tax on digital cigarettes and accessories – here is where you can fight this bill.

Kentucky’s bill  to reclassify vaping as smoking and ban e-cigarettes should also be protested.

New Jersey wants to make e-cigs a public safety issue in cars with children present. You know what to do…

Tell Saugus, Massachusetts you don’t agree also about their public ban.

And finally a positive note: the State of Wisconsin wants to exclude electronic cigarettes from anti-smoking legislation… Encourage them!

Let your vapor’s voices be heard!

Snickerdoodle and Popcorn Too: When Vaping Makes You Hungry!

eCigBeat - Fri, 03/02/2012 - 18:16

According to studies, ingesting nicotine can help control appetite… but what if vaping becomes delicious and stimulates appetite?

Visiting handcrafted e-juice producing Ms T’s Bakery website will not only make you want to move beyond the standard electronic cigarette flavors many often start with – tobacco or menthol – it also makes you want to hit the pantry or bakery for a binge.

Hand-made individually per-order, Ms T’s e-juices range from completely flavorless to a variety of savory-sounding baked goods, a huge selection of beverages, and different breakfast-themed flavors.

If you’re in the mood for Apple Crumble, Banana Fosters Coffee or French Toast & Bacon vapes, explore Ms T’s vast range of e-liquids and keep in mind you can create and order any taste you can’t find there – which is not likely!

Electronic Cigarette Poetry

eCigBeat - Thu, 02/02/2012 - 21:42

It’s been a slow ecig-news day and rather than report it might be better to create… well, sorta.

It seems that historically and culturally, we have many references to traditional cigarettes, but none to the electronic cigarette (that could be found).

Instead, as perhaps a first beacon for the age of “digital” smokes, and without intending any disrespect, here is a reworking of the great Scottish poet Edwin Morgan‘s “One Cigarette”:

“One E-Cigarette”

No vape without you, my charger.
After you left,
your LED glowed on in my ashtray
and sent up a long thread of such quiet grey
I smiled to wonder who would believe its signal
of so much love. One e-cigarette
in the non-smoker’s array.
As the last spire
trembles up, a sudden draught
blows it winding into my face.
Is it smell, is it taste?
You are here again, and I am drunk on your e-liquid lips.
Out with the LED.
Let the vapor lie back in the dark.
Till I hear the absent ash
sigh down among the flowers of brass
I’ll breathe, and long past midnight, your last kiss.

Switch to E-Cigs, Buy a House!

eCigBeat - Wed, 01/02/2012 - 16:03

A recent article in a British paper highlights the costs involved in smoking tobacco as well as the savings in switching to electronic cigarettes.

Julie Parnell smoked 40 cigarettes a day before she went “digital” with  ECigaretteDirect.co.uk E-Cigs, sharply reducing her monthly £400 habit (roughly a little more than $600 USD), allowing her to maintain mortgage payments on a new house.

So much for those who say e-cigarettes are too expensive!

E-cig research flawed

Electonic Cigarette Advisor Blog - Tue, 31/01/2012 - 23:14

Some research done recently at the Harvard School of Public Health suggested that electronic cigarettes had an adverse affect on the ‘smokers’ airways.  They tested 30 people who smoked, but with no apparent health problems, and asked them to use e-cigs.  They concluded that after only 5 minutes the users were showing signs of airway constriction.

However, the American Council on Science and Health is claiming that the results were flawed, and is puzzled as to why these so called studies ignore how dangerous actual smoking is.

Dr Gilbert Ross of ACSH says that anything that is inhaled affects the airways, and this has nothing to do with major lung problems such as cancer or emphysema.  There is absolutely no reason to think that there would be any long term harm caused by the airway changes after using e-cigs.  He also wonders how the changes were actually measured.

No comparisons were made between the changes to airways from smoking tobacco cigarettes and between the changes after using e-cigs, and because of this the doctors at ACSH believe that the research was invalid.

It is a well know fact that e-cigs eliminate the user’s exposure to the thousands of carcinogens known to be present in tobacco smoke.  Furthermore e-cigarettes also avoid second-hand smoke and all the risks associated with that.

The Harvard researchers concluded that rather than using e-cigs as a means of helping to quit smoking, people should stick to the more common methods, presumably things like nicotine patches and gum.  However, Dr Ross of ACSH, who clearly favours e-cigs as a method of trying to stop smoking, said that those methods which are currently approved only have a success rate of 5 to 10%.

It seems clear which method Dr Ross would recommend – electronic cigarettes.

Utah parents worried about school kids using e-cigs

Electonic Cigarette Advisor Blog - Sun, 29/01/2012 - 05:54

There have been two news items concerning electronic cigarettes to come out of Utah in the US recently.

The first one concerns the possible use of e-cigarettes by school pupils.  Local parents and teachers have listed alcohol, drugs, tobacco and e-cigs as items of danger for young people.  They would like State leaders to take the matter seriously.  Apparently nearly 8% of 12th graders say they have tried e-cigs.  This is certainly something that should be of concern.  E-cigs in America contain nicotine, and nicotine is an addictive substance as any smoker knows only too well.  It would be wrong for young people to experiment with e-cigs because this might then lead them on to smoking tobacco, which is a far more lethal substance.  Tobacco is known to contain thousands of carcinogens, and these are the cancer causing ingredients, not the nicotine.

Many believe that although nicotine is addictive it is no more dangerous than caffeine, but becoming addicted to nicotine will almost certainly lead young people into tobacco products.  Therefore parents and teachers have every right to be concerned.

There has been limited research done on e-cigs.  The American Cancer Society has refrained from taking a stance on e-cigs for this reason.  Unsurprisingly the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has failed to classify e-cigs as a nicotine replacement therapy, and has left them in the category of tobacco product, which seems to me to be a nonsense.  E-cigs therefore remain in limbo.

However, there can be few people who would disagree that e-cigs should not be sold to young people, and e-cig distributors must do everything in their power to stop this happening.

At the same time as this news emerged from Utah, the Utah Vapors Association claims that it is being unfairly treated because local government also wants to place e-cigs in the same category as tobacco.  In a statement they said, “The vapour that comes from an electronic cigarette is just that, it’s water vapour.  It’s no different from vapour that comes from a humidifier in a department store  display.”  They want the freedom to use electronic cigarettes anywhere and at any time.

A common misconception about electronic cigarettes is they’re more expensive than traditional tobacco smoke-makers.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

Using an industry average for the cost of vaping daily, we invite you to use our “Vape-ulator” to compare your daily analog consumption against the equivalent vaping costs.

You’ll find yourself surprised at not only how much you actually spend, but how much you could save by switching to vapor!

Bloog’s Trifecta 3-in-1 Battery Bonanza

eCigBeat - Thu, 26/01/2012 - 14:07

To virgin vapers, “automatic” or “manual” batteries make little sense at first.

And then there’s Passthroughs…

With BloogPlanet’s new Trifecta, however, it either doesn’t matter, or all comes clear.

A manual battery must be switched on during vapes; an automatic turns itself on when you draw on the vapor; and a passthrough (or PT)  is when your batteries aren’t charged, so you plug your electronic cigarette into your USB to “pass through” heh the waiting.

Well, BloogPlanet‘s Trifecta does all three at the click of a switch, and has also added a ten-second delay cut-off.

All you need now is to decide which RGB-glossy finish you want to vape with…

Electronic cigarette – smoking cessation device?

Electonic Cigarette Advisor Blog - Thu, 26/01/2012 - 07:04

It is always difficult to find new things to say about e-cigarettes.  The internet is full of success stories from people who claim to have stopped smoking with the help of e-cigs.  Sometimes the claims do not ring true.  Are they working for an electronic cigarette company I wonder?

One thing is certain, and that is that no-one working on this site has any interest in an electronic cigarette company and as such we hope to provide impartial advice and and  information, and of course if any new  news emerges we hope to get it out to you as soon as possible.

We are always pleased when new studies are done in connection with the e-cig, and are constantly asking for more research to be undertaken, because we really do believe that electronic cigarettes are the future for smokers.  We believe them to be safe, otherwise we wouldn’t be promoting them on this site.

The Electronic Cigarette Association feels the same way, and it is made up of a group of businesses who make and distribute e-cigarettes. They would like the e-cig to be known as “an alternative to a known killer”, in other words as an aid to quitting smoking.  They definitely do not want them to be known mainly as an accessory for non-smokers and particularly children, or as a temporary substitute to tobacco in order to beat the smoking ban.  However, although some health authorities do acknowledge that e-cigs have got to be better than the alternative, no-one will actually say they should be used as such, in other words like other nicotine replacement therapies.  It is so frustrating.

We will feel we have achieved something when these great little devices are classed in a similar way as other smoking cessation products.

2012 Electronic Cigarette Media Coverage Ramping Up – Already!

eCigBeat - Wed, 25/01/2012 - 03:54

As predicted in our 2011 e-cig review, 2012 is shaping up to be quite a year for electronic cigarettes.

In January so far, there have been dozens of articles and television interviews ranging thorugh all aspects of e-cigs and vaping.

Most impressive were the business pusblications, such as the “Are E-Cigs Cool” piece in Bloomberg Businessweek, or the AdvertisingAge take on E-Cigarette brands and marketing due to their explosive growth over the last few quarters and couple of years (users and sales quadrupled between 2009-10).

Then there were the guarded, ambivalent or “objective” reports on whether e-cigs work,  or if they’re unhealthy, along with well-resourced refutations of not just the doubts but the some of the lies told about vaping.

And then there’s unlikely ally Fox News with positive coverage of e-cigarettes, along with other television coverage of e-cigarettes.

And this is only the first three weeks. There’s 49 more weeks left this year…

Black Fire Flavoring – Close To The Real Thing

Vaping Guides - Tue, 24/01/2012 - 03:01

Black Fire flavoring from FlavourArt provides about as close to a burning paper smell as vaporized liquid possibly can.  I picked a bottle of this up recently from Ecig Express, mixed it up and was amazed at the results.  It doesn’t necessarily taste like a cigarette so much as it does the burning paper of one.  With that in mind, this will likely be a fantastic flavor to use in conjunction with other tobaccos that are missing a little of the smokey flavor.  There don’t seem to be any other flavors present in Black Fire either, unlike some other smoke flavorings that taste overwhelmingly of hickory or mesquite.

Note that Black Fire is a DIY flavoring, not a premixed juice and cannot be vaped on its own.  The description mentions mixing at 1-5%, but a mix of 10% flavoring in a 80/20 PG/VG mix seems just about right to me.

Passive smoking? Not with e-cigs

Electonic Cigarette Advisor Blog - Mon, 23/01/2012 - 05:16

The e-cig has been a wonderful device for the poor passive smoker, as more and more smokers see the benefits of quitting smoking and giving e-cigarettes a try.

Because of smoking bans the passive smoker these days is usually a family member, or friend of a smoker, who is stuck with the people around them who smoke in the house or car.

Non-smokers are thankful that these days, most places where people gather together for work or socialising now ban smoking, so other people’s smoke is not a problem.

Unfortunately some smokers can be quite selfish and do not care or do not realize just how much harm they are doing to those around them. For example, parents who still smoke at home must be aware of the dangers of passive smoking and the possible long term damage they can do to their children.

There are, of course smokers with a conscience out there, and they may have struggled for years to try and stop.  Smoking is an addiction, and as such very hard to quit.  They may have tried and patches, gums and sheer will-power many times, so how about trying electronic cigarettes now?  There is nothing to lose, they even work out cheaper than conventional cigarettes.

E-cigs don’t have the foul smell of tobacco cigarettes and the harmless water vapour that is produced soon disappears into thin air!

The thousands of successful users of e-cigs will say that they give the same satisfaction as a tobacco cigarette but are much more socially acceptable.  Better for the smoker’s health, as well as, even more importantly, for those around them.

Vaping In The Year of The Dragon

eCigBeat - Mon, 23/01/2012 - 04:38

Reasearch electronic cigarettes before switching from “analog” to “digital”, and you’ll come across the fabled Ruyan e-cig.

Ruyan is the first-ever e-cigarette, invented in China in 2003 by pharmacist Hon Lik and marketed in 2005.

Originally conceived as a vaporless device (it heated drawn air) by American inventor Herbert A. Gilbert (see his patent schematic at the top of the pic), it never went anywhere because the technology just wasn’t there.

Don’t look for the Ruyan at a site by that name however; you can now order their e-cigs, e-cigars and even e-pipes from ECigarettes.cn.

But seeing as today is Chinese Lunar New Year, you should wait two weeks before ordering; that’s how long they’ll celebrate this new Year of the Dragon.

Coffee Flavor Electronic Cigarettes?? Coffee Flavor Electronic Cigarettes!!

eCigBeat - Sat, 21/01/2012 - 18:16

Somehow, coffee and cigarettes go together.

A revelation to many during the process of researching the Vaposphere is they can be brought together literally, because of an e-juice flavor called … COFFEE!

According to some, no so-called “tobacco” electronic cigarette flavor actually resembles “real” analog cigarettes; further, as your taste buds readjust once you’re off smoke & tar, tobacco flavor that satisfies is even harder to find.

Coffee e-liquid flavor for your e-cigs is often cited as a good beginner’s flavor, especially if you like your nicotine with that morning java.

Apparently the most “robust” coffee flavor is made by Luci E-Cigs, so you might want to start there for a double-dose of the morning bean…

Non-smokers preferred in the workplace

Electonic Cigarette Advisor Blog - Sat, 21/01/2012 - 05:12

It is amazing to think that around US$92 billion is what it costs America in health bills each year for smoking related conditions and also for time people take off work because of these illnesses.

It is likely that a smoker will be away from work around 4 days a year more than a non-smoker.

Shocking statistics from the States show that the average cost in loss of productivity for a non-smoker is US$2,600, for an ex-smoker the sum is US$3,250 and for smokers it amounts to US$4,400.

Much of the time lost to businesses is due to smokers taking longer than an average coffee break so that they can go outside and have a cigarette, joining the ranks of sad looking souls outside office buildings.

So, if an employer is looking for a new recruit, who would they choose, a smoker or a non-smoker?  Everyone knows the answer to that one.  However, it is not always possible to tell who is a smoker and who is not, and the interviewee is unlikely to admit to being a smoker.  Asking such a question would probably be seen as an infringement of someone’s human rights.

The question therefore arises, would switching to e-cigarettes be the answer to this problem?

The electronic cigarette would meet the needs of a smoker, and put an end to smoking breaks, because e-cigs can be used anywhere.  This would avoid time lost and make for better productivity, not to mention better health.  Extensive use of e-cigs in the workplace could save companies major healthcare costs.

With economies struggling as they are, the use of e-cigs in the workplace could be good for many other countries too.

However, the main reason for quitting smoking has got to a health issue.  People who make the change from tobacco to e-cigs feel and look better, and this helps them to have a really positive outlook on life.
